Cooking together – Ukrainian dishes B1+ (Pärnu)

We will get acquainted with Ukrainian cuisine, prepare food together, and practise Estonian.

Did you know that in Ukrainian cuisine, people cook and stew rather than fry, salt rather than smoke? That salads include sliced rather than chopped vegetables? That hot or cold soups – borscht, okroshka, and other soups – are eaten almost every day? Or that pork and pork fat, sour cream, sunflower oil, and eggs are used a lot, and onions, garlic, horseradish, dill, parsley, cumin, and thyme are popular seasonings?

Nutrition consultant Ülle Niilisk will divide participants into small groups and each group will have to start preparing a specific dish based on a recipe. We will set the table together and during the meal, we will talk about Ukrainian customs and national costumes.

Participants will be able to develop their skills of listening (explanations and teamwork in Estonian), speaking (conversation), and reading (understanding recipes) in Estonian. Cooking together is also suitable for more courageous language learners at the A2 level.

  • Language level: B1+
  • Time: 22.04 at 12.00-15.00
  • Location: Kooli 6b, Pärnu
  • No of participants: 12
