Korean Sunday School
This school was founded in 2006.
There are language lessons, plus drawing and calligraphy classes to teach the children how to correctly write the Korean characters. They also learn about the ancient history of the country, listen to Korean music, learn songs and stage Korean fairytales in a puppet theatre. The students are also prepared for and observe traditional Korean holidays and festivals. They learn dances and are introduced to national costumes, ornamentation and cuisine. Since there is a lot in common between the ancient fortresses of Estonia and Korea, excursions are also arranged.
Anyone between the ages of 3 and 18 is welcome to attend the Sunday school, with parents applying on their behalf.
Students from the school have also attended a reception held by the Korean ambassador in Helsinki at which they performed the songs and dances they had learned. The ambassador was so impressed by them that he presented the Sunday school with a number of national costumes, a drum and a fan.
