INTEGRATION CALENDAR – DECEMBER 2009

 

The Integration Foundation has launched the “Integrated language studies” simplified procurement process. The deadline for offers is 11:00 am on 7 December 2009.

 

The procurement will involve the organisation of a 104-hour in-service training course of teachers of Estonian as a second language in educational institutions with Russian as the language of instruction.

 

The course is designed to support the participants in obtaining the language skills they need for their professional work and to provide them with knowledge of integrated subject and language studies methodology.

 

Up to 42 teachers will be invited to take part in the course. The training courses will be held between January and July 2010.

The aim of this competition, which was held this autumn, was to support the promotion of Estonian history and the nation’s cultural history and the involvement of students from schools with Estonian, Russian and other languages as the language of instruction in joint activities.

 

According to the conditions of the competition, the activities to be carried out must provide the participants with the knowledge and practical experience they need to live, study and work in Estonia. They must involve citizens of third countries living in Estonia (including those with undefined citizenship) and citizens of the European Union.

 

As a result of the competition, support has been provided for events related to Estonian history, the nation’s cultural history and contemporary Estonia designed for students from basic and secondary schools and vocational education institutions enabling studies on the basis of basic education, and activities contributing to the achievement of good results by students in social studies and history and to the moulding of their social competence. Undertakings and projects promoting self-organisation among students have also been supported, as part of which teaching materials will be produced in schools in association with students.

The successful bid for the production of the security-related teaching materials was submitted by InterAct Projektid & Koolitus OÜ. Tallinn Health Care College is dealing with the development of the health-related teaching materials.

 

The production of the teaching materials and the training of the trainers who will use them will be guided by the implementation plan of the “Estonian integration programme for 2008–2013”, one of the priorities of which is promoting and supporting means for addition studies of Estonian, including the creation of new teaching materials. They will also be guided by the lifelong learning strategy of the Ministry of Education and Research, as part of which the Estonian language learning opportunities of speakers of other languages are being diversified.

 

The production of the teaching materials and the training of trainers are to be financed by the Ministry of Education and Research.

More than 450,000 kroons in support will be distributed among eight local governments as part of the “Local government informational materials” project competition.

 

The local governments of the cities of Valga, Sillamäe, Narva, Narva-Jõesuu, Jõhvi, Kunda and Loksa and Tallinn City Office submitted applications for the updating of their websites, the creation of Estonian and Russian databases for public services, the issuing of informational materials in Estonian and Russian, and the translation of local legal acts into Russian. The project’s activities will come to an end in November 2010.

 

The competition is designed to boost the awareness of citizens of third countries in Europe – including Estonian residents with undefined citizenship – of the services provided by the public sector within local government areas.

 

The competition is being financed by the Ministry of Culture and the European Fund for the Integration of Third-Country Nationals.

The results of the 2^nd round of applications for the “Let’s do it together” project competition were revealed in November. 17 applicants will receive their share of more than 2.5 million kroons in support.

 

The competition was designed to increase the civic activity of and contact and communication between citizens of Estonia, the European Union, third countries within Europe and Estonian residents with undefined citizenship.

 

The competition will support cooperative activities lasting more than three months, campaigns, discussion forums and other citizens association activities involving citizens of Estonia, the European Union and other countries in Europe residing in Estonia and Estonian residents with undefined citizenship of at least 18 years of age.

 

Applications were open to agencies managed by local governments, non-profit organisations and foundations.

 

The competition is being financed by the Ministry of Culture and the European Fund for the Integration of Third-Country Nationals.
