We will go canoeing and learn about the life and nature of Soomaa while learning new Estonian expressions.
High water and flooding of rivers have become known as the ‘fifth season’ in Soomaa, Pärnu County. Usually, the biggest floods occur in early spring, in March–April. The fifth season is an exciting time for canoeing, as you can traverse not only the river, but also the forest and meadows. We will travel by bus to Soomaa, where a tour guide and canoes will be waiting for us. The canoe trip ends with a shared lunch. The bus will take the hikers back to Pärnu.
Canoeing requires communication and teamwork skills. Participants can develop their skills of listening (hiking instructions are in Estonian), speaking (asking questions, giving feedback, giving instructions), and reading (signs, information materials) in Estonian. During the hike, we will learn about the history of the area and observe numerous natural phenomena. The activity is also suitable for more courageous language learners at the A2 level.
